Sondy is a documentary filmmaker and video editor with a deep love for storytelling and a natural curiosity for the tools that bring films to life. With a hands-on approach, she frequently experiments with new tech, often testing cutting-edge features on live projects to see if there’s a better way to work—even if it means embracing a few extra challenges. This curiosity extends to her ability to craft compelling behind-the-scenes content, where she showcases how films are made and highlights the tools and techniques that shape the process. Her personal work discusses mixed heritage, Asian diasporic experiences, and how social expectations impact identity. She wants her work to prompt radical healing and reflection. In 2020, she was an Armed With A Camera fellow where she created Back to the Source, a film about feeling foreign in one’s home country. Most recently, Sondy was selected to be a 2023 Artist Disruptor by The Center for Cultural Power x California Arts Council. With their support, she created Dear Watsonville, a mixed media film about the first Filipino migrants to arrive to the U.S. (the manong generation) using hand-drawn illustrations, archival photos, and oral history interviews from the Watsonville is in the Heart archive. Dear Watsonville is currently in festivals.
